HFD: Homeless man confesses to starting 2 fires on Mon.

Henderson, Ky. (WFIE) - The Henderson Fire Department says one person has been arrested in connection to two fires.

Jeffrey Lucas, 38, of Henderson was arrested on Monday for two counts of Arson.

According to the Henderson Fire Department, crews responded to an empty house fire on Juilia Street. Neighbor Timothy Miller lives across the street."

“You see people hanging out, or walking around, or kids playing over there in the yard. But, I mean, they’re not supposed to be over there, but they’re over there anyway. But if the house wasn’t there, they wouldn’t be there," Miller said.

While working that fire, the department says crews saw another fire on Washington Street.

“I don’t know who owns it but it’s been there for quite a while and nobody is doing anything with it. We’re talking years," Miller added.

Crews were able to get both of the fires out and nobody was hurt.

Here is a short video of a busy afternoon we have today. Just after 3 pm, we responded to a fire on Julia Street with the report of black smoke coming from the roof. Responding had that fire under control and were mopping up when one of our personnel looked up and noticed an unusual amount of smoke rising into the air nearby. Fire Chief Foreman jogged around the corner to investigate further and saw that a mobile home was now on fire. He advised Dispatch to send units to the fire in the 900 block of Washington Street. A short time later, someone was observed fleeing the immediate area of the mobile home. This person was tracked down and questioned by our Investigator and Henderson Police. An arrest related to both of these fires has been made. There were no serious injuries reported.

HFD says Lucas was seen by witnesses going into and leaving the homes right before the fires started. The fire department’s news release says Lucas, who is a homeless man, told police he was the one who started both of the fires.
