Henderson attorney facing drunk driving charge

HENDERSON, KY (WFIE) - Kurt Denton, a former Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney, was arrested late Sunday night in Henderson.

Police say they were called to a pharmacy on 2nd Street because a man fell outside the doors of the business. Workers say they helped him into his car and took his keys to keep him from driving.

Officers say Denton, who is a Henderson area lawyer, told them he had driven to the store to pick up some medicine.

Police say he smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted to drinking some whiskey.

When police asked him to get out of the car, they say he fell to the ground and failed several field sobriety tests.

Denton was taken to the hospital, where officers say he refused a blood test.

He was then booked into jail, but has since been released.
