Owensboro launches Brand USA's campaign for tourism initiative

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - Owensboro is joining big time destinations like Nashville and Las Vegas, becoming a top music city. The U.S Government just added the city to it’s tourism list of of “Hear the Music” cities.

Visit Owensboro along with Kentucky Department of Tourism officials and Brand USA, the destination-marketing organization for the United States, officially launched the campaign at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Thursday.

The program featured Kentucky Commissioner of Tourism Kristen Branscum, Brand USA’s Chief Marketing Officer Tom Garzilli, along Visit Owensboro representation. A special performance by the Wooks, a bluegrass music band topped off the invitation-only event in style.

The Wooks group was featured in the international campaign videos.

Owensboro is one of 10 U.S. cities featured in the campaign, which showcases the unique music culutre found within America.

“Not only is having these new visitors great for the economy here," Branscum explained, "they are eating at the restaurants here, and it’s a great way to diversify our tax base.”

“Out of the cities, Owensboro, Kentucky--this music video is the most popular one around the world," Garzilli announced. “It has about 4.1 million views. It’s received 22 million impressions, and it’s the leading city in this program. You have Detroit, Miami, Las Vegas, New Orleans," he listed. "It proves to us that people around the world want to experience an authentic USA, and that’s what you have right here.”

Locally, we’re told both videos will be used as advertising tools for Visit Owensboro through a variety of channels including social media.
