Vacant Darmstadt building to be new home for pre-school
DARMSTADT, IN (WFIE) - Finding a pre-school for your child can be very challenging for parents. Trinity Lutheran Church hopes to ease that burden by opening a new pre-school this fall.
The school building next to the church has been vacant for almost 10 years, but come this fall, children will be roaming the halls once again. The new pre-school will have classes for 3-4 years old’s and will offer full daycare up to five days per week.
Pastor Stan Temme says they conducted a study over the last few years and found there around 1,700 children ages 0-4 within a 5-mile radius of the school.
Temme, along with early education director Breenna Smith hope that their services will help lift the burden off of parents who are looking for a school for their young child.
“We’ll have a project based, hands-on curriculum," explains Smith. "So, they’ll be learning by doing and doing hands-on experiments and exploration.”
“To see these classrooms empty, but the need there, we are really looking forward to having these empty classrooms once again filled with children, filled with teaching and filled with parents as well,” says Pastor Temme.
The first day of school here is set for August 26.
