EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - The University of Evansville is on alert after officials say a man tried to rape and sexually assault an employee overnight.

It happened behind the Olmstead Administration Building shortly before 2:00 a.m.

The employee says she was taking the trash out when a man came up behind her and aggressively grabbed her shirt, tearing the front of it.

She told police he made several inappropriate sexual comments to her, but she was able to get away.

Police don’t have a suspect at this time, but they’re describing him as a man between 32 and 40 years old, around six feet tall, and between 170 and 200 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a gray crew-neck sweatshirt, black shorts, and a white hat.

The university sent out a text through its campus alert system shortly before 3:00 Tuesday morning and followed up with an email Tuesday afternoon.

Campus security called 911: “We had a housekeeper just report to us that she was trying to come in Olmstead, that’s our main administrative building, to clean, and an older white guy in a ball cap tried to grab the door and go in behind her.”

If you have any information about this incident or if you see someone matching that description, please call Evansville Police at 812-436-7896 and University of Evansville’s campus security at 812-488-2051.
