NEWBURGH, IN (WFIE) - Work is now underway on phase three of the River Town Trail project.
Ground was broken on the final phase of the project around 4 p.m. Monday. They are hoping construction will be done by the end of October.
Creating a 4.8 mile trail that runs the entire length of Newburgh, this project has been in the works for years, and this one mile extension will be the final piece.
City officials tell me this would not be possible without help from INDOT and the financial contribution from Warrick Trails and many grants. Officials are hoping when the trail is done they can focus on making trail connections with Warrick Trail and the Vanderburgh County Trail.
Construction will start on Yorkshire Drive and run along side of SR-662. Officials don’t expect the construction to interfere with with the flow of traffic.
