KIRSKVILLE, MO (WFIE) - University of Southern Indiana sophomore Nathan Hall (Springfield, Missouri) captures First Team All-GLVC honors after a first-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2019 Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships over the weekend.
HALL WINS 3K STEEPLE
Hall tamed a field of 21 runners to win by four seconds in 9:16.84 for the only Eagle to earn First Team All-GLVC honors and the fastest USI time in the steeplechase this season. Hall’s seed time was 9:41.10 meaning a 25 second improvement. Hall also grabbed Second Team All-GLVC in the 1500m run with a time of 4:02.09 on the final day of competition.
On the first day of competition, sophomore Wyat Harmon (Fredricktown, Ohio) took Second Team All-GLVC honors after his second-place finish in the 10,000m run in a USI season best time of 31:24.28. Harmon also doubled in the 5,000m finishing eighth 15:27.83. Senior Tyler Kruse (Fort Branch, Indiana) gained a couple points for the Eagles in the 800m finals coming in seventh in 1:57.59. The 4x400m relay team of sophomore Demontrae Lapsley (Indianapolis, Indiana), freshman Tyler Garrett (Martinsville, Indiana), sophomore Arie Macias (Godfrey, Illinois), and Kruse were three-tenths off the school record after finishing fifth in 3:21.93.
USI racked up 34 points to finish in eighth ahead of Illinois-Springfield, William Jewell, Maryville, and Quincy who all finished ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth, respectively. Indianapolis won the meet with 222 points while McKendree (134) was second, Missouri S&T (133) third, Truman State (78.5) in fourth, and Lewis (59.5) round out the top five.
The Eagles will split squads in Naperville, Illinois for the Dr. Keeler Invitational and in Montevallo, Alabama for the Falcon Finale on May 9-11 for those on the borderline of qualifying for the NCAA II Outdoor Championships.
