EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - An Evansville street has been named after Mr. Evansville, Old National Bank CEO Bob Jones.
The announcement was made Friday morning that there will now be a Bob Jones Way in the River City.
Jones is retiring after a 40 year career. He started as a teller and then came in 15 years ago to return Old National to its glory days. Since then, job satisfaction has risen from 55 to 81 percent.
The resurgence of Old National ran parallel to growth of Evansville under former democrat mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel and now Republican mayor Lloyd Winnecke.
Jones says this is never something he could have imagined. But he always wants the community to remember what Old National has become.
“The great culture that is Old National, the values that we operate," explains Jones. "The diversity, inclusion, ethics, and all the things that make Evansville so great. It’s really not about a person, it’s about the culture that’s there.”
The street sign will sit in front of the Stone Family Center for Health Sciences. Mayor Winnecke says this location was chosen because of Jones’ role in developing partnerships that brought the school to the downtown area.
