EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - The highly anticipated Costco building in Evansville is nearly finished. It is expected to open on June 28.

As the company searches for employees, we are getting an exclusive first look inside. Costco offers a wide variety of services: a gas station, tire changes, medical offices, and of course bulk food and merchandise.
In a matter of months, the 150,000 square foot warehouse will be filled with nearly every type of product and service you can imagine.
“We’ll have electronics up front. You know TVs, cell phones, computers, laptops, tablets, that kind of stuff,” says Warehouse Manager Hal McCullum.
McCullum tells us the stock will basically be the same as in Costcos across the country.
“We’ll look to source local things that we know are going to be fantastic in this particular market,” says McCullum.
Some of which will be seasonal and rotating. Of course, it would not be Costco without food.
“This area will be our food court. Everything we make is in house. The most famous Costco story is the $1.50 hot dog that ties to our food court. It’s been the same price since 1983 I believe,” says McCullum.
A little fun fact that, McCullum says, probably will never change.
“A big part of our philosophy is how can we work with our vendors, work with our partners to drive the price point down for our members so for us it’s obviously about volume and if we can move through enough volume managing our margin appropriately then we can give our member the best value for any particular product,” says McCullum.
So why Evansville? McCullum credits demographics and economic growth.
“We hope that we absolutely are one of the anchor stores here and we draw people in. That’s great for the community. Obviously that’s great for us as it builds around. It’s a win, win situation,” says McCullum.
Costco officially moves in June 1, 2019. That is when they focus on final preparations for opening day, including training 200 employees.
