Local parishes join for ceremony to remember final moments of Christ

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Three local parishes came together once again to celebrate Good Friday.

You may have seen them walking down Franklin Street with a cross on Friday. It was their live re-enactment of stations of the cross.

The parishes walked from Sacred Heart Church on Franklin all the way to St. Boniface Church on the west side.

This ceremony is about remembering those last final hours of Jesus’ life. Also, reminding one another of his sacrifice and what they believe is the true meaning of the season.

“Easter and I think too that it’s Christ’s resurrection and it’s about new life and for us too is that maybe to move away from our own self and to be with one another and is family is to come together as family,” Father John Brosmer, Sacred Heart Church, explains.

Stations of the cross reenactments happen all over the world.

Some, like the one here in Evansville, and others are a little more elaborate with activities and costumes to really bring the event to life.
