Construction on new downtown YMCA on schedule
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Construction on the new YMCA in downtown Evansville is right on schedule.
The facility is expected to open around Labor Day.
The new building’s square footage will be comparable to the old. It is designed to better meet their needs.
St. Vincent will also run primary care and physical therapy services in a portion of the building.
YMCA officials tell us they’re excited about the floor plan and what they can do with the space. They plan to incorporate new areas and programming they haven’t been able to support in the past.
That includes a STEM lab, enrichment center, community outreach lounge, and a teaching kitchen.
We’re told there could be a brief period of time in which the old building closes before the new one opens. That is because the equipment will need to be moved, but that won’t happen until the end of August.
