VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) - A jury found an Evansville man guilty of several felony charges on Tuesday.
Ryan Hensley, 38-years-old, was convicted of four felony charges after he used a sword during an attempted armed robbery in September of 2018.
- Attempted armed robbery
- Attempted theft
- Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon
- Intimidation with a deadly weapon
In September 2018, police say Hensley threatened a man with a sword while trying to rob him of his scooter.
“This happened in broad daylight at lunch time off a busy roadway,” explained Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Nick Hermann. “Random acts of violence against vulnerable citizens will not be tolerated."
“Without skipping a beat, our victim in this case called 911 and gave crucial information to emergency dispatchers,” explained Deputy Prosecutor John Bober. “That description immediately sent officers in the right direction. The victim in this case was on his way to work. And the defendant is now on his way to prison.”
Hensley will be sentenced on May 20.
