EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Mayor Tom Watson and the Owensboro Board of Commissioners held a press conference Monday afternoon to discuss a major downtown project.

The announcement made it official. A 12 to 15 story building will be complete on the riverfront in just two years.

The building will be a mix of a hotel, parking garage and apartments.

This is the first rendering of the project. The hotel is shown in orange, the parking garage is yellow, and the apartments are blue.

While the project is still in it’s design phase and the type of hotel has not been announced yet, city officials are ecstatic about the project.

Gulfstream is the developer. They say there will be at least 160 apartment units and 120 hotel rooms.

Some Owensboro residents look forward to parts of the project, but worry about the height of the building.

The groundbreaking is expected at the end of May, and construction should last until 2021.
