EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -You can help raise money to bring penguins to the tri-state.

Right now, Mesker Park Zoo is about halfway to their funding goal for the new Penguins of The Patagonia exhibit.

Now they are hosting a fundraiser called vintage vines, pairing with penguins.

The event will be held on August 10th, 2019 at City View.

The event will have a full course meal, wine pairings, and a live auction.

You can buy tickets or you can donate items for the auction to show your support.

All proceeds will go toward the penguin exhibit.

The hope is enough money will be raised to start construction on the penguins exhibit by January.

If all goes as planned construction would take up to 18 months- which means you'll see Penguins as soon as the summer of 20-21.

The exhibit will have an area for visitors to not only see the penguins on land, but also swimming under water.

“The pool itself is over 40 thousand gallons of water. Then the habitat that the penguins live in is thousands of square feet on top of that. Not many people don’t like penguins. They’re exciting, they’re active, they’re fun to watch, and we’ll actually have an element where people will be able to get up close to the penguins” said Executive Director Erik Beck.

If this years event goes well, the park is thinking about making it a yearly event, donating the proceeds to areas of the park that need it the most.
