USI holds annual ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’ event

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Evansville’s Mayor, Lloyd Winnecke, was in high heels Tuesday night for the University of Southern Indiana’s annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event.

Dozens of college students joined the Mayor, walking a mile in high-heel shoes.

The goal is to raise awareness of rape, sexual assault, and gender violence both on and off campus.

This event has a unique take, those walking are mostly men, including some survivors of assault.

“As a survivor of sexual assault, I think it’s not only important for women, but for men to be aware how they can prevent sexual assault on college campuses. I think it’s important that we stand up and show our advocacy and show that we support one another,” said Jason Honesto, Sophomore at USI.

It wasn’t just men, some women and children participated as well.

This was the 13th edition of the event.
