PAINESVILLE, OHIO (WFIE) - The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team split its Sunday matinee against Lake Erie College in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action. The Panthers fell in game one, 6-5, before taking game two, 10-1. Wesleyan moves to 15-18 overall and 8-6 in conference action.
Game 1: KWC 5 – LEC 6The Storm jumped out to a three-run lead after scoring three runs off of two hits in the second. Lake Erie posted one run in the fourth to extend their lead to four.
Wesleyan responded with five straight runs over the final three innings to take a 5-4 lead. Terrilynn Summers launched a two-out solo home run in the top of the fifth to put the Panthers on the board.
Lake Erie led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and bunt. Both runners scored on a double to right center, allowing the Storm to take game one 6-5.
Game 2: KWC 10 – LEC 1The Panthers offense exploded in game two for 16 hits, tying their season-high of 16 against Malone on March 22.
Parker put Wesleyan on the board in the top of the first with a sacrifice fly to centerfield, allowing Daunhauer to score.
Two more runs were added in the fourth as Maddie Dawson drove in Daunhauer with a double. Parker grounded out but Dawson was able to score from third.
Mullen blasted her second home run of the game in the top of the seventh, a two-run shot to left field for Wesleyan's final two runs.
Maci Brown went the distance in her fourth win of the season, striking out four and allowing one run off of seven hits.
Daunhauer and Dawson finished game two three-for-four at the plate while Tidwell, Mixer and Mullen recorded two hits each.
The Panthers have a midweek match up with the defending National Champions on Tuesday. Wesleyan heads to Southern Indiana to take on the Screaming Eagles at 6 pm CT. G-MAC action resumes on Saturday, hosting Ohio Valley followed by Ohio Dominican on Sunday.
