EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Riverside Drive is now expected to open Friday morning at 7:00 a.m.
Section of Riverside and Veterans-Memorial Parkway has been closed since April 2 so crews can replace water pipes.
Crews finished replacing those water pipes over the weekend and now they are out paving and putting the finishing touches on the project to get this road back open.
On Monday, city officials and construction crews met on site to discuss how they will finish paving this stretch of road they had to tear up and how they are going to landscape around it. Water Superintendent Pat Keepes tells us this project was on a compressed timeline due to the need to get these water lines back in action.
He’s pleased that, even despite the weather and number of other things that could have gone wrong, they’re keeping to their seven to 10 day schedule.
“We did complete the work successfully," explains Keepes. "We were very pleased with it given the fact especially that we had either rain or a threat of rain since last week. Our contractor worked all day Friday, through the night, and into the wee morning hours on Saturday, and got the critical work completed. And now it’s just a matter of getting the pavement and other incidental work done.”
Right now, we are told crews are expected to have everything finished by rush hour Friday morning.
