DAWSON SPRINGS, KY (WFIE) - Authorities are continuing their search for 16-year-old Lauryn Sizemore.
Police believe she could be with her step-grandfather who, family says, was told to stay away from the children. According to police, an arrest warrant has been issued for the step-grandfather, 56-year old Glenn Eugene Harper:
Dawson Springs Police Chief Mike Opalek tells 14 News he followed up on nearly two dozen tips Tuesday morning, spanning about ten different states after that Amber Alert was issued early Tuesday morning for Lauryn Sizemore.
“For me, personally, I’ve known this girl since she was running around in diapers, I’ve know her and her family for a long time,” Chief Opalek explained.
The teen was last seen around midnight on the 30th in her bedroom in Dawson Springs. Around 9:30 that morning, she was gone.
Authorities think she’s with her step-grandfather, Harper, driving a 2004 maroon Hyundai Sonata with Kentucky plates.
“We don’t actually know where to look right now, and I just want to get her home safe,” Opalek added.
Harper reportedly told friends he was going to Texas. His father and brother both live in Houston.
Many people are wondering why there was a delay in an Amber Alert. Investigators say the case, at first, did not meet the criteria for KSP to issue it. But, new developments helped the case.
A prayer service is being planned for Wednesday night at six at Dawson Springs High School.
Police ask if you see her, please call 911. For any other information regarding this case, call Dawson Springs Police at 270-797-2277.
