EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - University of Southern Indiana students and fans were confident going in to Thursday’s NCAA Division II semi-final game.

Now more than ever, they’re looking forward to the future.

“It’s a big town. It’s a big school. So funding-wise, it has to go Division I," said a senior student while tailgating.

“I’m actually really excited, this is the first time in years that we’ve been here," another student said.

A push for a Division II championship comes at a crucial time for the University.

USI is set to open its new basketball arena next year.

The postseason run ended late Thursday night at the Screaming Eagles fell 81-71 to Point Loma in the tournament semi-final.

Alex Stein left the floor to a chanting crowd after becoming USI’s all time leading scorer.
