Police search for suspect after Mustang stolen, driven out of showroom

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Police are searching for a suspect who stole a vehicle right out of the show room of Evansville’s Town and Country Ford.

Lenny Reed, who runs security for Town and Country Ford, it’s now on them to improve their security.

“It’s our responsibility to improve our security posture here and that’s what we’re doing now,” explains Reed.

The dealership got a surprise early Wednesday when their cleaning lady arrived for work.

“She noticed that these two doors, the large doors that we drive cars in and out of had been broken, and there was glass everywhere throughout half of the showroom,” Larry Oldham, General Manager for Town and Country said.

Oldham says the car thief broke out the window to a door to get into the showroom. That’s how they got behind the wheel of a green Ford Mustang Bullitt and drove right out the closed glass doors.

Even though security cameras are set up around the showroom, they did not capture a single picture of the car thief.

“Our DVR was not working and it’s been repaired now, but we don’t have video," Oldham said. "They are checking some other local businesses videos to see if they got anything.”

Police found the car at an apartment complex nearby, but investigators are still looking for the driver.

Reed said even with extra security it’s hard to prevent these things from happening.

“Crime’s going to happen whether you have even armed guards out here," explains Reed. "There have been banks robbed over the years that have armed guards. No matter what you do, you just cant stop crime.”

Town and Country does plan to fix the damage to that mustang and sell it at a reduced price.

If you have any information on this case you’re asked to contact Evansville Police.
