OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - The dedication of an angel statue happened at the Memorial Gardens' Garden of Faith in Owensboro on Thursday.
The statue remembers children who have passed away. Leslye Scott helped bring the statue to Owensboro. She said, “It’s a great place for people to come to reflect, to get the inner peace that they’re lacking due to a loss of a child.”
Scott faced tragedy more than 20 years ago. “Back in 1994 I lost a child due to miscarriage,” said Scott.
After losing her child, her doctor suggested she read a book called “The Christmas Box,” for comfort. Scott explained, “In the book it talks about a child that was five years old. I’m not putting an age because the way I see it, we’re all still children.”
She is using her own heartache to help other parents who have been through the same loss hoping the statue brings comfort. “Peace, fill the empty void that’s in their heart,” said Scott.
After eight years of raising money, Scott said she was determined to bring the Christmas Angel Box Statue to Owensboro. Thursday was a day she waited years for. Scott said, “Happy, relieved, ecstatic. I’ve worked so hard and now I can see, she’s here.”
Others who’ve felt the heartache more recently found courage to share their own stories. Scott hopes the angel will bring peace to all who need it “People will come near and far to see her, to find that inner peace that they are so lacking. That they didn’t get to have,” Scott said.
