DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE) - Daviess County is one step closer to having a needle exchange program.

The fiscal court unanimously voted to pass the resolution for a needle exchange program in the county.

It will be operated by and housed at the county's health department and will not cost any more tax dollars.

The Owensboro City Commission must pass a similar resolution at its next meeting to continue the process.

County officials say this will help those with substance abuse problems as well as people in the community who could be contaminated by infected needles.
