EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - They help house our homeless, and newly announced funding will help breath new life into one of their programs.
Aurora is set to receive $25,000 from the city of Evansville to be used in their diversion program.
That program began back in March and funding has run dry. Since then, you have been able to help 30 people with $20,000.
For the last few months, they've learned how to divert people without funding. This means, for example, helping with a budget plan.
Leaders there tell us they’re excited to be getting $25,000. It means they can help more people who take in friends or family members.
The money also benefits local homeless shelters.
If family or friends are taking more people in, that reserves space in the shelters for those who have no other options.
The non-profit tries to help divert without using the money, but say it’s certainly nice to have it in place.
