OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - The Salvation Army is always in need of donations, especially around the holidays. But the Salvation Army in Owensboro got a very unique donation this year. A gold coin
The coin is from 1834 and was worth $5 back then, but it’s worth much more today.
We’re told the gold coin is now worth $800.
Captain Aaron Abram of the Salvation army says with all the Christmas and Thanksgiving donating they do, this contribution will go a long way.
“It’s certainly a big blessing to get something that large at one time," said Abram.
Captain Abram is still shocked he has a gold coin in sight and says the donor knew it was his place to bring it to the Salvation Army.
