HENDERSON, KY (WFIE) - One of the three people taken to the hospital after a single vehicle crash on Sunday has died.
According to the Vanderburgh County Coroner, 24-year-old Devan Baize passed away Monday morning just before 8:30.
The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 8:50 p.m. Sunday on Green River Road No. 1, near Tillman Bethel Road.
Devan Baize was driving a Jeep and witnesses say they saw the SUV fishtail before hitting a tree.
Deputies say Baize, 23-year-old Bryce Spurlock, and 23-year-old Julia Mathews, all from Henderson, were found outside of the vehicle when they arrived on the scene.
Investigators believe alcohol played a role in the crash, and it appears seat-belts were not being worn. Their speed is still being investigated.
Dispatch say one of three was flown to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. The other two were taken by ambulance.
There’s no word yet on the conditions of Spurlock and Mathews.
Chief Deputy David Crafton of Henderson County’s Sheriff Deptartment said: “everybody knows alcohol is a major contributor of injury accidents and fatalities. Seat-belts do help save lives. Speed is always a factor we look at. Those are the big three in that are factors in injury accidents and fatalities that’s why we focus so much time in enforcement in those areas.”
Deputies have ruled out mechanical issues on the SUV, plus environmental factors, such as weather.
