...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THIS
EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Paducah continues the Excessive
Heat Warning through 7 PM for areas south of a line from Cape
Girardeau Missouri to Paducah and Madisonville Kentucky.

* TIMING...through early this evening.

* HEAT INDEX VALUES...Peak heat indices today will reach between
101 and 107 degrees at most locations. However, scattered
thunderstorms and increasing cloud cover may bring heat index
values down in some areas.

* IMPACTS...The combination of the persistent hot temperatures
and high humidity results in a high risk of heat-related
illness. The very young, the elderly, those without air
conditioning, and those participating in strenuous outdoor
activities will be the most susceptible. Also, car interiors
will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous
situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of
fluids...stay in an air-conditioned room...stay out of the sun...
and check up on relatives and neighbors.
