Taking a Stand: Big Switch delay

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - For more than a year now, you've been hearing about the Big Switch scheduled for February 17th.  For Evansville, it now looks like the date will be June 12th.

Last week, Congress passed a bill pushing back the date at which stations must turn off their analog signal.

14WFIE-TV and other stations around the country could have petitioned to turn off the signal on the original date, February 17th, but that is not going to happen.  That's because one station in this market has decided to wait until June.

While we would have preferred to make the switch as we've been promoting, we think it would be confusing if all the stations in the Tri-State didn't turn off the analog signal all at once.

It's estimated nationally about 5.7% of the audience is not ready.  Hopefully, the extra months will prepare viewers for this government mandated switch over.

Remember, if you have satellite or cable television, you'll be okay.  But, if you are still receiving local TV over the air with an older set with an antenna, you'll need a converter box.
