Budget cuts hitting Indiana University

Bloomington, IN - Indiana University President Michael McRobbie has ordered budget cuts at each I.U. campus to offset a $4.9 million reduction in state funds.

McRobbie says the cuts were prompted by notification from the state budget agency that operating funds to the university were being reduced by 1 percent.

He says they should be considered one-time cuts, although university administrators should be prepared for possible further cuts in the 2009-10 fiscal year.

In the meantime, he says they should consider delays in administrative hiring and reductions in spending for equipment, supplies and travel.

He says student financial aid would be exempt from the cuts.
