Knight Township plans may be done soon

Posted by Carrie Williams- email

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- Plans to bring part of Knight Township into the city of Evansville could be done by the middle of next week if property owners and the city can reach a deal by Wednesday, the last day of the year.

The city wants to annex over 1,500 acres including the Burkhardt Road commercial district, but property owners were afraid their taxes would go up and filed a lawsuit to stop the move.

The city has already agreed to spend up to $150,000 to help improve traffic congestion in one area and they're now offering street lighting improvements, if the group will drop its suit.

The city stands to get 2.2 million in new property tax revenue under the annexation plan.
