IN county being sued by disabled residents

GREENFIELD, IN (AP) - The American Civil Liberties Union and a state advocate are suing Hancock County on behalf of two developmentally disabled residents of a Greenfield group home threatened with closure.

The federal lawsuit filed Mondau in Indianapolis claims the Hancock County's zoning board is violating several laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, by requiring Tangram Inc. to seek a special exception to operate the group home.

The nine-page complaint says Indiana law specifically states that local zoning codes can't disallow such group homes.

It seeks preliminary and permanent injunctions against the county and unspecified monetary damages.
