Owensboro, KY (WFIE) Three adults, and two minors were charged with dealing drugs near a school in Owensboro.

Evidently the alleged drug deals occurred on West 2nd Street in the 1300 and 1400 blocks and involved two kids, a 13-year-old and a 16-year-old.

After receiving several tips about drug trafficking in the area, detectives from the Owensboro Police Department and Kentucky State Police started investigating and caught six people on December 2nd.

The 13-year-old was allegedly selling his prescription medication Adderall and the 16-year-old was involved in the sale of four Lortab pills.

OPD says it's important parents keep a close eye on their prescription drugs.

"If parents have prescription medications in the house, whether they belong to the children or the parents, they need to keep up with them better than that. If parents except the responsibility of making sure their children take their medication like they're supposed to, these kinds of things will not happen." says Sgt. Chris Castlen

In addition to the 13- and 16-year-old that were arrested, 18-year-old Whitney Gail Askins, Chelsea Poole and Patrick Johnston as well as 19-year-old Bradley Scott White were arrested on several drug related charges.

The Owensboro Police Department says both Adderall and Lortab are commonly abused by adults in the area.
