Gretchen Ross comes from 14 News from Rockford, Illinois where she spent the past year as a reporter and weather anchor for NBC affiliate WREX. During her time there she had the chance reported on the 2008 floods of Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. She also had the chance to cover the Valentine's Day shootings on the campus of Northern Illinois University for which she and the rest of the news department was nominated for Best Breaking News Coverage Emmy.
Originally from North Carolina, Gretchen attended Campbell University where she majored Mass Communication with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. While at Campbell she wrote for the school newspaper The Campbell Times for which she won the Best Reporter Award in 2006 as well as freelancing for The Fayetteville Observer. She also worked at the campus radio station 90.1 FM WCCE as a dj and shift manager. Gretchen also was the voice of the Fighting Campbell Camels as the public announcer for the school's baseball and softball teams.
Before graduation Gretchen had the opportunity to work as an intern and associate producer for ABC NewsOne, the 24 hour newsroom for ABC Network News in New York City. While at ABC NewsOne she had the opportunity to develop medical stories for ABC News Now, as well as produce for the show Stealing Scenes hosted by Tony Perkins.
After receiving her bachelors, Gretchen made her way to the Midwest to attended graduate school at the University of Illinois at Springfield. While studying Public Affairs reporting, she had the opportunity to work as a reporter for NBC affiliate WAND at the Illinois state capital bureau. Gretchen covered the bitter budget battle in Springfield as well as the fight between Ameren and lawmakers to lower citizens' utility bills. When she wasn't reporting on politics, Gretchen reported on Looking for Lincoln stories as well as her first breaking news coverage of a bank hostage situation in Arcola, Illinois. She also anchored weekend morning weather for WAND in Decatur.
When she is not working she likes to run and work out and volunteer with local community organizations as well as take part in local theatre productions.
