Taking a Stand: Citizens Supporting Schools

The following is a response to an editorial that I did on September 15, 2008 (Click here to see it) and a response from Frankie Niedhammer of the Vanderburgh County Taxpayers Association on September 18, 2008 (Click here to see it).

Hello. I am Lisa Boyle - a resident of Vanderburgh County, a mom of school-aged children, a taxpayer, and Chairperson of Citizens Supporting Schools.

A community's greatest responsibility is to educate its children. For years, we have asked for real solutions to serious issues in our schools, such as outdated facilities and serious overcrowding.

After HUNDREDS of forums and significant community input, we now have a well-designed, well-researched plan. The EVSC Strategic plan will relieve serious overcrowding, invest in inner city schools, introduce new technology into all schools, and offer ongoing professional staff development.  All without raising property taxes.

Citizens Supporting Schools agrees with the WFIE editorial in support of the November 4th referendum - and we are not alone. Our community is uniting in unprecedented ways in support of the EVSC strategic plan, which was approved by the school board in March.  Hundreds of organizations, businesses, and individuals have endorsed this plan - and more are joining daily. To see a complete list of supportive groups, you can visit our website at http://www.citizenssupportingschools.com/

We need everyone to vote YES for the EVSC strategic plan. Strong public education makes a strong community.  There is no greater investment than an investment in our children.  Our Future is NOW.  Vote YES for schools on November 4th.
