INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WFIE) - Olympians from Indiana were honored Thursday at the Statehouse by Governor Mitch Daniels.

Hundreds of supporters cheered as each Olympian accepted a Distinguished Hoosier Award from the governor.

Daniels said their accomplishments are very admirable at such a young age. "That sort of self-control and work ethic is rare to find in a person of any age," he said. "But to find it in people so young is just inspirational to me."

Olympic gymnast Samantha Peszek appreciated the support. "To show their support and that they watched, they followed us all the way through, it was so awesome. It's amazing," she said.

Eight athletes who competed in the Beijing Summer Olympics in soccer, diving, and gymnastics were at the ceremony.
