GEORGETOWN, KY (AP) - A former high school basketball star from Georgetown has pleaded guilty to a drug charge.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports 19-year-old Bud Mackey entered the plea Monday to an amended charge of first-degree possession of a controlled substance.
Mackey had been indicted on a charge of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance, but prosecutors offered him a plea deal in which they recommended that he serve a six-month jail sentence.
Mackey was the 2007 most valuable player at the Sweet 16 tournament when he played for Scott County and had planned to play basketball for Indiana University.
He was arrested in September for allegedly carrying 1.6 grams of rock cocaine in his shoe at the high school.
His sentencing is set for Oct. 6.
