Out of the ten races on the Ellis Park card on Friday, there were just three horses wearing the number eight. It was only fitting that two of them crossed the finish line first and one finished runnerup on the date 8/08/08.
To make things even a little more interesting, Victor Lebron aboard Wham won the eighth race of the day fittingly with the number eight horse.
Then to cap off the evening, in the 10th race, heavy favorite LuvandGo and jockey and jockey Jamie Theriot won to finish a day of crazy eights at Ellis Park.
Theriot was not surprised that the one through five choice took home the victory.
"You know I think I was the class of the race," Theriot said. "This horse in the past has been running against some pretty good horses, Pyro and these other horses."
Perhaps Theriot and LuvandGo learned a valuable lesson in those losses.
"Just getting beat on the wire, I knew there was some speed in the race and I said I am going to let him get his feet underneath him and that's what happened."
As for the crazy eight day at Ellis Park, Theriot offered up a quite simple explanation.
"The outside was pretty live today," Theriot said. "If you were in the eight hole or on the outside you had a very good chance."
