Cancer researcher: Limit cell phone use

A prominent cancer researcher has warned his staff to limit cell phone use because of possible health risks, even though several studies in the past that have shown no link between cell phone use and cancer risk.

Doctor Ronald Herberman of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute believes adults should use cell phones only in moderation, and children only in emergencies.

Herberman offered the warning to his staff, citing unpublished research showing concern about electromagnetic waves reaching parts of the brain.

"This potentially could contribute to increased risk for developing brain tumors particularly the area of brain close to the ear," Dr. Herberman said.

Groups representing the wireless industry have pointed out that most studies published in scientific journals show wireless phones do not pose a health risk.
