Art of Caring critters unveiled at the zoo

There was an unveiling of artistic critters at Mesker Park Zoo Thursday night.

There were a flock of birds and a herd of stunning zoo animals, each with a distinctive personalities.

The animals were created by local artists, and they will be sold at auction as part of The United Way Art of Caring project.

Among the creations were toucans, a project of North High teacher John Siau and students Kendall Adams, Brandi Ball and 14 News anchor David James' daughter Lauren Longest.

Michelle Ricketts of United Way said, "We are so blessed in this community to have such good, talented artists that have wanted to come on board and want to help us and the community."

The Art of Caring critters will be placed along Main Street and the riverfront and will be there through October.  In past years, the project has raised 150-thousand dollars for United Way programs in southwestern Indiana.
