Higgins wins city golf title

Earlier this year she finished her illustrious collegiate career as the all time scoring average leader in University of Evansville history which included a school low round record of 68 in a tournament at Ft. Pierce, Florida.  Monday, Crissy Higgins took aim at her first Evansville Women's City title.

After shooting a one under par 69 Sunday at Fendrich,  the Heritage Hills High School graduate posted an even par 72 at the challenging Cambridge Golf Club for a 36 hole total of 141, good enough for a commanding eight stroke victory over former Aces teammate Vandi Gooch.

"In a 2 day event I started playing very solid, lots of fairways, lots of greens, so I couldn't have asked for anything better," she told 14Sports after the round.  "It was a great two days."

Higgins and Gooch were both coached at UE by Jim Hamilton who was on hand to watch his former students.

"Crissy was always a good swinger of the club," Hamilton said.  "I guess she's become more tournament savvy. She just played well today. I was extremely proud of her. I was very very happy for both girls."
