Study: Blood pressure drugs lower dementia risk

Taking blood pressure medication may lower your risk for dementia.

Researchers had patients with hypertension who were 80 and older take blood pressure medication or placebo.

The trial was stopped early because it showed a significant benefit for death and stroke rates among people taking the drugs.

However, when the dementia data was combined with results from previous studies researchers found the drugs appeared to lower the risk for the disease by 13 percent.
