Milk goes square

Posted by Amanda Lents

The old-fashioned gallon milk jug is being re-designed, but pouring a glass of milk might not be as easy as it used to be.

The new square looking jugs do not have a real spout and people using them for the first time complain they're hard to pour.

Wal-Mart and Costco are already using the new tall rectangular jugs.

They say they're cheaper to ship, better for the environment and cost less.

But, the question is, will shoppers like the new boxy look and buy them?

Sam's Club says the new designs can save shoppers 10 to 20 cents compared with the old jugs.

But people who've used the new jugs say there's a trick to avoid spilling.

Instead of lifting and pouring like most people do, customers say you need to keep the jug on the table and gently tip it towards the cup.

They describe it as a "rock and pour" technique instead of "lift and tip."
