By Debbie Bush, VP and General Manager of WFIE

On April 21st, we did an editorial asking taxpayers not to get into a petition war with the Evansville/Vanderburgh School Corporation.

We said, let the 20-year $149 million bond issue stand.  It supports our students and our public school system.

Too late.

Last week, the Vanderburgh County Taxpayers Association came up with 200 signatures.

It will force Evansville/Vanderburgh County to waste time to get its own signatures to support the re-building plan.

Frankie Neidhammer, who represents the group, told one of our reporters-the EVSC pushed the bond issue so that the taxpayers couldn't vote on it.

Frankie, the EVSC held about 20 hearings so you and others could voice your opinions.  Where were you?

Why didn't you or the others organize and strongly speak up-then?

We say, support the school district's petition.

And, we also challenge Frankie or another member of the Taxpayers Association to record a rebuttal with WFIE and explain this action.

It seems to us you are only hurting public education and the students who need our help.
