Study: Pot is more potent than ever

Posted by Mike Mardis

Marijuana potency reached a record high in 2007, according to researchers at the University of Mississippi.

Experts analyzed levels of THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, in over 60,000 samples of marijuana collected since 1975.

They found the average amount of THC in samples collected in 2007 was 9.6 percent, double the average of marijuana from the '80's.

Government officials are concerned because more potent pot increases the chance of mental toxicity among abusers, and could increase the risk for addiction.
