The Big Rivers chapter of the Red Cross in junction with the Owensboro Convention and Visitors Bureau announced the annual Ride for the Red event Wednesday.

It's sponsored by the Big Rivers chapter of the Red Cross and the local visitor's bureau.

The ride is June 7 and will begin at Waymond Morris park.

There will be rides ranging from 12 to 100 miles.

Proceeds go to the American red cross.

"We had a personal experience where we needed the Red Cross. We were in a fire and they were on the scene before the evening was over so they were there within an hour and they helped us out tremendously so this is very true to our hearts that we really want to help out the Red Cross as much as we can," said cyclist Jan Ward.

The biking course will take riders thru parts of Daviess, Henderson, and McLean counties.
