Erica Forsee-Nurses as Teachers

The recipient of the 2010 "Nurses as Teachers" Excellence Award was Erica Forsee.  The "Nurses as Teachers" Excellence Award is given to a nurse involved in educational activities such as patient education, staff educations and community education.  Her nominators said, "Erica saw a need for her peers to better understand the results of pulmonary function tests and took it upon herself to research and develop an educational tool for the staff.  This constant effort to increase her knowledge and pass it along to her patients and co-workers make Erica very deserving of this honor."

Erica has been a valued St. Mary's employee since September of 2004.  She is a role model in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department, where she serves a Board Certified Cardiovascular Nurse.  In addition to her nursing degree, Erica has a bachelor's degree in education – a degree that is vital to her daily interaction with patients and co-workers.  Her strongest attributes are assessing a patient's educational needs and intervening to address those needs.  Erica has achieved CAP Level 3.  She is also the co-editor of "Upbeat," a quarterly newsletter for cardiac rehab patients which includes patient education regarding diet, medications and the most up-to-date treatments.
