Ivy Tech Community College will serve as the site for the Southwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy when classes begin late March.

More than 20 college credit hours will count toward an associate's degree in criminal justice.

In 2004, Ivy Tech launched its Criminal Justice program at the Evansville campus, and Wednesday, 175 students attend classes for the program.

Evansville Police Chief Brad Hill says, "This program will serve as a recruitment tool, and it will emphasize the important role education plays in developing successful law enforcement officers."

Classes will boost training and preparation for those seeking a career in law enforcement, adult and juvenile correctional facilities, victim advocacy and protective services.
