Vincennes University will use a grant from the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration to fund training for miners.

The one year grant of $185,046 makes VU the Indiana recipient of the grant.

Designed for workers of coal, metal, and nonmetal mines, the training includes a variety of topics such as hazard recognition, roof and ground control, ventilation, and mine emergency operations.

Ron Bucci, director of VU Mining Technology, says, "We have approximately 300 mining operations in Indiana and our instructors travel to nearly every county to deliver high-quality instruction. We look forward to the coming year as we anticipate training nearly 5,000 miners and 1,500 contractors."
