State Rep. Trent Van Haaften announced Monday that final approval has been secured to enable the University of Southern Indiana to proceed with construction of a $36.5 million college of business.

At a statehouse meeting Monday, members of the state budget committee granted USI the authority to proceed with the project, which also will house general classroom, laboratory and administrative space. Present plans call for construction to begin this summer, with the facility to be opened in 2010.

The multi-story building will be located between the Liberal Arts Center and the Technology Center on the Evansville campus. Temporary buildings currently located on that site will be removed.
