Update, Mon 6:50 am: The remains of 19-year-old Rosemary Baker were found Sunday in Hopkins County, more than eight months after she disappeared.
Baker's family says they hoped the 19-year-old would return but always sensed something fishy about Baker's disappearance.
It's even more disturbing now that her remains have been discovered and details of her murder have been revealed back in October 2006 19-year-old Rosemary Baker went on a date, but never returned to her home in Dawson Springs.
Rosemary's mother, Elizabeth Vannoy, says her daughter just disappeared one night, "She never did come back home. She left everything down at her apartment. Her pocketbook, her license, everything."
Baker's family reported her missing but always had hope the 19-year-old would show up, "I'd think she'd be home. I'd think they'd found her and bring her home to me."
Authorities found Baker's remains Saturday. Family members say they were discovered at 4H Camp Road in Dawson Springs.
Vannoy "they didn't look that hard. They should have had dogs, helicopters, but they didn't have nothing like that."
Police have arrested 56-year-old Ralph Belt of Providence. He's charged with murdering, raping and kidnapping the 19-year-old.
The news is especially hard to take for Baker's father, Leon, who knew the suspect years ago, "I knew he was a rough neck, but I didn't think he would do anything like that to her, but did."
Belt has a prior record. The suspect is a lifetime registered sex offender in Kentucky. He's convicted of the 1st degree rape of a 14-year-old.
Baker's parents hope belt gets an even greater punishment for their daughter's murder, "He's sick. He needs to stay in the penitentiary before he do somebody else that way."
Police have not yet released Rosemary Baker's cause of death. The 19-year-old leaves behind a one-year-old daughter.
As for Belt he remains in the Hopkins County Jail.
Beshear funeral home in Dawson Springs is handling the arrangements. A date for Rosemary's funeral hasn't been set.
