Plans will soon be under way to improve operations at Countrymark Oil Refinery in Mt. Vernon.

The company is investing $20 million to expand the facility which will increase the much needed supply of gas and diesel products to Hoosiers across the state.

Indiana's only American owned oil refinery is announcing big plans for their future.

Countrymark Chief Executive Officer Charlie Smith says, "It's 45 million gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel a year."

That's how much added product Countrymark will be producing when they add twelve percent to their current refinery in Mt. Vernon.

So can hooisers expect a guaranteed drop in gas prices?

Countrymark says the global energy market is so broad it's impossible to predict a decrease in prices from a company its size. However, they do make one promise to consumers.

Smith says, "It's American oil, made by American workers, serving American communities."

The company also says it will continue to blend American renewable fuels with their premium diesel, a proven source of energy that benefits the environment.

Smith says, "One of the things that we are major supporters of which may be unusual as an oil company, is ethanol and biodiesel."

The expansion comes at a time when a national gas shortage combined with a two percent increase in U.S. Fuel demand has forced energy prices to continue to climb.

Smith says, "There is no one magic bullet that is going to solve the nation's energy challenges, what we can do is take some of our profitability and put it back into refinery expansion, put it into bio-diesel distribution, these are all things that summarize an american energy story to american consumers."

Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of this year, and be finished by next August.
